Comment : Original Goffin's prediction runs about 1" closer to observers (about on the dotted line in the OCCULT map). The difference between Goffin's and my nominal prediction arose from different orbital elements for Maja.

Comment : This event is not listed in E.A.O.N. or IOTA predictions. Although the star is pretty bright, asteroid has diameter only 26km. The nominal path shows the shadow running between the two listed observers.

Comment : The path depicted in OCCULT map is adjusted according to miss observation by Denis Buczynski moved over southern Sweden, Poland, Ukraina, Romania and Black Sea. There was clear sky over Poland and I have received negative report from Janusz Wiland for this area indicating probably even more eastern shift of occultation path. Clouded reports (I have no coordinates for these) also from Martin Mobberley (UK), Henk J.J. Bulder (NL) and Ornulf Midtskogen (NO). Unsure report with no coordinates is from Brian Manning (UK) and Allan Wells (UK).

Comment : Astrometry obtained on amateur Cerro Pololo Observatory allowed determination of possible occultation path. This N-S running path crossed Poland, Slovakia, easterm Austria, Hungary, former Yugoslavia and southern Italy. For all these countries the event took place low above horizon - around 10 degrees.

Comment : Although I have only short info about polish observations, it is possible to generate OCCULT path chart. The star is probably double according to a video record of Benedyktowicz, showing 0.08 second long D and 0.16 second long R events. Edwin Goffin's update based on Gordon Garrad's last minute astrometry was correct to about 30km.

Comment : Event is not listed in E.A.O.N. or IOTA predictions, only in IOTA/ES predictions. Observer is sure with his observation. However the occulted star is a HIPPARCOS star (so the star position is quite certain). Therefore the offset should be all accounted to error in asteroid position; Ted Bowell's ASTROB file gives CEU about 0.2" for late May (with last observations from end of May), while the asteroid should be off by more than 2" from ephemeris position using his orbit. New orbit computed by Mike Kretlow using 1989-1998 positions puts the ground path very close to the observing site, but still remains 6 minute time difference (equal to those 2" ...). Have you any explanation ?

Comment : Astrometry obtained on Observatorio del Teide allowed determination of possible occultation path as a check to reported positive observations. While it gives the location in agreement with all positive observations, there remains some uncertainity in time. Costa's and Moreno's observation agree within 2 seconds (in absolute time) and are by no doubt true occultation observations. However there remains time discrepancy of about 1 minute with Licadro's observation. Schnabel's observation is in the path, but reported time is off by about 3 minutes compared with the other two positive reports. Observations in his area was probably affected by weather because of interruptions by clouds and also since David Fernandez-Barba was observing not far from Schnabel and he reports he wasn't able to observe the star successfully in his 26cm telescope due to high humidity and city conditions. It's a pity this star was so faint !

Comment : Clouded report without coordinates (but close to Richard Miles) came from Andrew Hollis. Observation by Hazel McGee is 4 minutes earlier than predicted according to update, so it is question whether it is a real occultation. Moreover this observation almost on the line with Dymock's sure negative observation and in case of graze observation there should be also occultation at Jon Shanklin's site where was also sure negative observation. The weather was mostly bad unfortunately, no observation gives a definitive hint of path location.

Comment : Clouded report is also from Wolfgang Beisker, Ales Waksmundsky and southern Poland (no coordinates given). I have given here also one positive report from USA - Bob King was probably very near the south limit and the double event may be accounted rather for asteroid surface features than to its satellite. The final path was about 0.8 path widths north of the last update with 2 second time error. Lodz, PL (it was clouded there) and Poznan, PL were in the path.
There are also two positive observation from Crimean Observatory (MPC code 095), but I don't have any numbers yet.
