Comment : Best event this year. Observation on some places was influenced by clouds/haze/poor seeing; curiously always was D missed and R was timed. Philippe Dupouy (Dax Observatory) provided kindly his composite image showing the star field (on the left) with drift scan (on the right). The dropout and main events are marked. Profile of the drift shows that the dropout didn't reached the level of full brightness drop of main event. This may be due to the short duration of the dropout but atmospheric influence cannot be excluded.

Comment : The update showed up to be quite good. Carles Schnabel reports gradual D and R with ~0.5 duration, while Eduard Masana reports instant D and R. I have given here the D and R times for Carles as those corresponding to the 'totality', as I suppose the graduality may have been mimiced by a few seconds of unstable image as the starfiled was rather low. Unfortunately observers are both close to each other and no shape can be derived from current reports. Expected duration was 7.8 seconds, so they were near the path limit (north or south ?). Hope there will be more reports from Italy where was good weather.

Comment : The update showed up to be quite good with almost perfect path location and few seconds time error. Bev Ewen-Smith has kindly supplied also his interested images of occultation observation obtained with a slow scan CCD and computer driven telescope during the exposition (not a simple drift scan observation)- first uncorrected (with description) and a second flatfielded one. The occultation from his location was also about 1 second longer than maximum expected duration.

Comment : Comparison of Casas's values with Goffin's chart shows the true path was close to the nominal (although not identical) with occultation time ~1 minute earlier. From this the expected occultation time is around 21:05:15 UT for Marseille while Piraux reported event around 21:07:38 UT. This is about 0.8" (or ~1500 km) from the main body. Although it cannot be excluded the event was caused by true occultation by other body (asteroids satellite?) it doesn't seem much probable to me. As Joel states in his report 'subjective or a physiological effect can explain it'. Occultation of the main bode was probably missed in fact because Joel started observing about 1 minute too late to see it.
