Martin Federspiel's update
IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
(15) Eunomia/TYC 231400113 event on 1998 December 3/4
visible from Sweden, Denmark, Channel, Bretagne, Brasil
Summary
Shortly before midnight UT on the night of 1998 Dec 3/4 the 270 km large
asteroid (15) Eunomia occults a 10 mag star in the constellation
Triangulum. The event will be observable from Sweden, Denmark, the North Sea
coast, the Channel between GB and France, Bretagne and northeastern Brasil.
However, the observation will be difficult: the full moon is only 39° away
and *the star is fainter than the asteroid* resulting in an only 0.2
mag drop which requires photoelectric equipment.
The event at one glimpse:
* date and approx. UT time of event: 1998 Dec 3 @ 23h 30m
* magnitude of target star: V=9.80
* magnitude drop [mag]: 0.2 (!)
* estimated maximum duration [s]: 37 s
* rough path description: Sweden, Denmark, the North Sea coast, the Channel
between GB and France, Bretagne and northeastern Brasil
The occultation path:
* approximate widths [km]: 270
* more detailed path description: please see coordinate map and your atlas
* uncertainty [path widths]: 0.5
* map: see Goffin's prediction
* remarks: this update with an independent orbit for Eunomia and the ACT
position for the star confirms Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction pretty
well. The paths are identical, Goffin's times are 0.4m earlier.
Data for the target star:
