IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
(70) Panopaea / TAC +34 02456 event on 1998, December 6/7
visible from Georgia, east Ukraine and Belarus, Latvia, Estonia,
south Finland, middle Sweden and Norway, Greenland and Alaska
Summary
On the night December 6/7, 1998 will be occulted 10.1 mag star by a 127km
asteroid (70) Panopaea. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO
astrometry for asteroid and ACT star position. The updated path is about
2 path widths north-east of Goffin's nominal path with -1 minute time
correction.
The event at one glimpse:

3:14 UT (N.A.)
* magnitude of target star: 10.1
* magnitude drop [mag]: 2.6
* estimated maximum duration [s]: 9.6
* path description: Path runs over Georgia (with 6m telescope at
Zelechukskya) ~3:04:30 UT, along Black Sea coast, eastern Ukraina
~3:05:30 UT, eastern Belarus, Latvia, Estonia ~3:07 UT, south Finland
with Helsinki on the limit and Turku in the path ~3:07:30 UT, middle
Sweden and Norway ~3:08 UT. It runs over Greenland ~3:11 UT, over
unhabitet islands of north Canada and over pacific coast near US/Canada
border on Alaska ~3:14 UT.

* remarks: Although the orbit uncertainities are quite small, there are large
nominal errors for star position, mainly in declination, which is
