IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (77) Frigga / TYC 1398 02324 event on 1999, February 5/6 visible from Middle East, Sicilia, Sardegna, Spain/France border, Canada and north USA Summary
On the night February 5/6, 1999 will be occulted 10.4 mag star by a 71km asteroid (77) Frigga. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for asteroid and ACT star position. That target star should be easy to locate as it is near brigh 4.7 mag gamma Cnc (Asselus Borealis) which is NE of famouse M44 cluster.
The calculation shows one path width NORTH SHIFT and no time correction compared with the Goffin's nominal prediction for finder chart. Detailed finder charts for this event are available also here.
This new path location is based on the same data as the one distributed yesterday, however now calculated with a corrected test version of OCCULT which is the only reason for the shift. Here given path description and attached charts are showing path which is free of the earlier mentioned ~0.1" error.
The event at one glimpse: * date and approx. UT time of event: February, 6, 1999 @ 01:34 UT (Euro) 01:45 UT (USA) * magnitude of target star: 10.4 * magnitude drop [mag]: 1.7 * estimated maximum duration [s]: 6.8 * path description: Path runs over Saudi Arabia, middle East with Jordania, Israel and NE Sinai peninsula ~1:30 UT, NE tip of Egypt just south. Crete is in ~1:31.5 UT and Greece just south ~1:32 UT. After that path just miss Sicily (Messina) and runs over very south of Italy ~1:32.5 UT, crosses N Sardegna and S Corse ~1:33.5 UT and finaly runs over south France ~1:34.5 UT along France/Spain border, Pic du Midi and all Pyreney mountains being just south. After crossing the Atlantic ocean shadow enters Canada at Newfoundland ~1:41 UT and runs westward over Quebec and Ontario to go just north of Lake Superior ~1:44 UT with the area S and SE of Winnipeg being within the expected errors ~1:44.5 UT, same as NW Minnesota. North Dakota is in path ~1:45 UT and Montana ~1:45.5 UT. Also NE South Dakota and NW Wyoming are within the path errors. The last is probably Idaho where the twilight will complicate the observations. IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (77) Frigga / TYC 1398 02324 event on 1999, February 5/6 visible from Middle East, Sicilia, Sardegna, Spain/France border, Canada and north USA SummaryOn the night February 5/6, 1999 will be occulted 10.4 mag star by a 71km asteroid (77) Frigga. That target star should be easy to locate as it is near brigh 4.7 mag gamma Cnc (Asselus Borealis) which is NE of famouse M44 cluster.
The calculation shows NO SHIFT in position and time and gives path essentially identical with the Goffin's nominal prediction for finder chart. Detailed finder charts for this event are available also here. The event at one glimpse: * date and approx. Crete is just north ~1:31.5 UT amd Greece also ~1:32 UT. After that path runs over Sicily (Messina) and very south of Italy ~1:32.5 UT, crosses Sardegna ~1:33.5 UT and finaly runs along France/Spain border ~1:34.5 UT with Barcelona being just south, Pic du Midi and all Pyreney mountains being in. After crossing the Atlantic ocean shadow enters Canada at Newfoundland ~1:41 UT and runs westward over Quebec and Ontario to go just north of Lake Superior ~1:44 UT. Minnesota is in path shortly after, North Dakota too ~1:45 UT. Also NE South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming are within the path errors. For any larger shift is responsible true star position. Circles along the path are OCCULT exactly calculated centerline points. !!!!!!! The uncertainity values given in brackets are based on the fact that OCCULT 4.07 may have error up to 0.1" in the ground path.
