IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
(1015) Christa / HIP 57721 event on 1999, March 25/26
visible from Algeria and Morocco, maybe also south Portugal and SW Spain
Summary
On the night March 25/26, 1999 will be occulted 8.5 mag star by a 101km asteroid (1015) Christa. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff astrometry for asteroid and Hipparcos star position. The target star should be easy to locate as it is only 1.6 degrees south of bright 2.1 mag beta Leo (Denebola).
New USNO positions have introduced additional 0.5 path width SW shift so the path shows now significant south-west ~7.5 path widths and time about 1 minutes earlier compared to the Goffin's nominal prediction.

* path description: Path runs over Algeria ~03:49 UT and Morocco ~03:50 UT.

Martin Federspeil's final update
IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
(1015) Christa/HIP 57721 event on 1999 March 26
visible from Atlantic Ocean, Morocco
Summary
On the early morning (4 UT) the 100 km large minor planet (1015) Christa
will occult the 8.6 mag star HIP 57721 in Leo for observers in Morocco.
As already discussed by Jan Manek in his preliminary update for the event
there is a significant south shift of the path compared to Edwin Goffin's
nominal prediction. The updated path will probably neither touch continental
Europe nor the Canary Islands. This update is based on an orbit for Christa
calculated from accurate and recent USNO positions as well as a very accurate
position of the star (Hipparcos catalogue).
The event at one glimpse:
* date and approx. UT time of event: 1999 March 26 @ 3 54 UT
* magnitude of target star: 8.55

visible from Algeria and Morocco, maybe also south Portugal and SW Spain
Summary
On the night March 25/26, 1999 will be occulted 8.5 mag star by a 101km
asteroid (1015) Christa. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff astrometry
for asteroid and Hipparcos star position. The target star should be easy to
locate as it is only 1.6 degrees south of bright 2.1 mag beta Leo (Denebola).
The calculation shows path significantly shifted to south-west by about 7 path
