IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (219) Thusnelda/TYC 0537 00145 event on 1999 Aug 21 visible from southeastern Europe, northwestern Africa, parts of South America Summary
The 40 km large asteroid (219) Thusnelda will occult a 9.5 mag star in the Pegasus/Equuleus region on the very early morning of 1999 Aug 21 (UT). The event will be visible for observers in southeastern Europe (Italy; near Napoli), northwestern Africa and parts of South America.
CAMC and USNO observations were available for the update of the asteroid's orbit. Using either the USNO positions alone or combining them with the CAMC observations yields slightly different results. The USNO positions show a small residual of 0.1" in declination with respect to the combined CAMC+USNO solution, which is probably due to small differences between the reference systems used (although CAMC *should* also be ICRF).
The path difference for the two solutions is 0.11" and 23 s; I consider the USNO solution to be the more accurate one. The UNSO solution is 10 s later and about 0.4" northwest of Goffin's nominal prediction which was based on a rather old orbit for the asteroid. The combined CAMC+USNO solution is 0.11" southeast of the USNO solution.

Final IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (219) Thusnelda/TYC 0537 00145 event on 1999 Aug 21 visible from southeastern Europe, northwestern Africa, parts of South America Summary
For this revised update only USNO positions (including very recent ones) supplied by Ron Stone were used. CAMC data were rejected due to unusually large residuals when combined with the USNO data. The orbit solution from the USNO positions alone is very accurate.
The new UNSO solution is 10 s later and about 0.3" northwest of Goffin's nominal prediction which was based on a rather old orbit for the asteroid.

Jan Manek's update
IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (219) Thusnelda / SAO 126822 event on August 20/21, 1999 visible from Ukraina, Romania, Italy, NW Africa and south America SummaryIn the night August 20/21, 1999 a 9.4 mag star SAO 126822 will be occulted by a 44 km asteroid (219) Thusnelda. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid and TRC star position.
The updated path runs ~4 path width north with time ~0.1 minute earlier compared to Goffin's nominal prediction. Of the euro-region the most promising conditions are in middle Italy.
The path runs over SE Ukraina ~01:05.5 UT, Moldavia, Romania ~01:06.5 UT, former Yugoslavia, middle Italy north of Napoli ~01:08 UT and very south of Sardegna at ~01:09 UT. After that it runs over NW part of Africa, crosses Atlantic ocean and runs over Brasil 01:26 - 01:32 UT, SE Bolivia ~01:33 UT and north Chile and Antofagasta at ~01:34.5 UT.
The event at one glimpse: * date and approx. UT time of event: August 21, 1999 @ 01:08 UT (Italy) * magnitude of target star: 9.4 * magnitude drop [mag]: 1.8 * estimated maximum duration [s]: 7.3 * path description: Path runs over SE Ukraina ~01:05.5 UT, Moldavia, Romania ~01:06.5 UT, former Yugoslavia, middle Italy north of Napoli ~01:08 UT and very south of Sardegna at ~01:09 UT.
