    Summary

In the night December 16/17, 1999 a 11.2 mag star TAC +17 00745 will be occulted by a 152 km asteroid (150) Nuwa. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and USNO/Flagstaff star position.

The updated path shows ~0.5" northern shift with time ~1.2 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

The path now runs over Russia at ~00:31-00:32 UT, S Finland ~00:33 UT, middle Sweden and middle Norway ~00:33.5 UT and after that path grazes southern Iceland ~00:36 UT and at ~00:38.5 also Greenland. Canada in entered at ~00:40.5 UT north of Groswater Bay and path runs to SW over Quebec provincia to Ontario. After crossing Lake Superior is in path N Wisconsin and S-middle Minnesota with Duluth on n.limit ~00:45 UT and Minneapolis in path. Later NW Iowa, SE of South Dakota and Nebraska at ~00:46 UT and Colorado with Denver ~00:47 UT. Also SE Utah and N Arizona are in path buth here the twilight and star altitude may be a problem.

Ron Stone (USNO/Flagstaff) has kindly provided also updated position and photometry of target star and Stefano Sposetti provided astrometry. I have used Stone's position as it has less RMS error and was measured in ACT reference frame, while Sposetti's was measured with GSC (unknown version) reference frame.

Please note that the star has only 11.2 mag in V band which is 0.7 mag fainter than the value in TAC catalogue. Brightness drop is therefore now 1.5 magnitudes which is enough for visual observations.
