    Summary

In the night of September 9/10, 2000 a bright 8.4 mag star SAO 91954 = HIP 2559 will be occulted by a 139 km asteroid (111) Ate. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and Hipparcos star position.

The updated path shows ~0.5 path width north shift with time ~0.9 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

The path of this occultation runs over N Russia at ~0:36-0:37 UT with Sankt- Peterburg in path at 0:37.9 UT, S Finland with Helsinki ~0:38.3 UT, N Estonia with Tallin ~0:38.3 UT, S Sweden with Stockholm ~0:39 UT, N Denmark ~0:39.8 UT, Scotland ~0:41 UT and north of Ireland ~0:39.8 UT. After running over Atlantic Ocean path hits also USA, running over SE Virginia with Norfolk area in path, North Carolina and NW South Carolina with time around ~0:49.2 UT. More to SW the star will too low.

As the target star is rather bright and easy to find, event has large brightness drop and uncertainity is under 1 path width, it seems this one is a good opportunity. Please inform also others in your area.
