IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (300) Geraldina / TAC +20 00709 on December 1/2, 2000 visible from S Russia, N Ukraine/S Belarus, Poland, N Germany, Netherlands, S England and N Florida (USA) Summary
In the night of December 1/2, 2000 a faint 11.5 mag star TYC 1256-00931-1 = TAC +20 00709 will be occulted by a 79 km asteroid (300) Geraldina. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff, TMO and Gnosca astrometry for the asteroid and Tycho-2 star position.
The updated path shows ~4 path width north shift and time ~0.8 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.
The path of this occultation runs over S Russia ~0:10.5 UT, N Ukraine ~0:11 UT, S Belarus ~0:11.5 UT, Poland ~0:12 UT, N Germany ~0:13 UT, Netherlands ~0:13.4 UT, S England with London ~0:13.9 UT in Europe. After crossing Atlantic ocean path runs over N Florida ~0:22 UT. Within expected errors are other countries, check the maps please.
There is large 4 path width uncertainty, so extra travel to the occultation path isn't recommended, also as the event is very short and star rather faint. However observers within uncertainty limits should give a try from their permanent sites.
Good weather and good luck !
