IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (680) Genoveva / TYC 2934-01553-1 on January 11/12, 2002 visible from Egypt, S Italy, Sarde, France, S England, S Ireland plus Canada and very NW USA Summary
In the night of January 11/12, 2002 a faint 11.3 mag star TYC 2934-01553-1 will be occulted by a 87 km asteroid (680) Genoveva. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid and Tycho-2 star position.
The updated path shows ~5 path widths south shift with time ~0.8 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.
Updated path runs over Egypt ~2:56.5 UT, south Italy (Sicily and Calabria) around 2:57.5 UT, Sarde 2:58 UT, France from SE to NW around 2:58.5 UT, south England ~2:59 UT and south Ireland 2:59.3 UT. Later path runs over south Greenland ~3:01.5 UT and enters Canada - north Manitoba ~3:4.5 UT, central Saskatchewan ~3:05 UT, south Alberta ~3:05.5 UT, very SE British Columbia ~3:06 UT and finally state Washington in USA ~3:06.3 UT. Please check the path chart for details. Please check the path chart for details.
Faint star occultation with rather large uncertainties, not worth of distant travels.
