IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
(242) Kriemhild / TYC 0182-00175-1 on January 17/18, 2002
visible from middle East, north Africa, S Spain and S Portugal in Europe,
plus NE Canada and USA
Summary
In the night of January 17/18, 2002 a 9.9 mag star TYC 0182-00175-1 will be occulted by a 42 km asteroid (242) Kriemhild. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and UCAC star position.
The updated path shows ~2 path widths north shift with time ~0.3 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.
Updated path runs over middle East and north Africa. Over south Spain path runs around 0:18.1 UT and south Portugal ~0:18.9 UT with Lisbon on north limit. Later path runs over NE Canada ~0:25 UT with Montreal and Ottawa ~0:25.3 UT and USA - Great lakes area ~0:25.9 UT; north Wisconsin and middle Minnesota. Please check the path chart for details.
The event at one glimpse:

* remarks:
Recent UCAC position was provided by Marion and Norbert Zacharias.
Target star is in south Canis Minor, 2.4 degrees south of Procyon =
alpha Canis Minoris = SAO 115756. Be careful to observe the correct star -
only 1.3' south of target is a 10.2 mag companion TYC 0182-00063-1.
