    Summary

In the night of January 25/26, 2002 a faint 11.4 mag star TAC -03 09790 will be occulted by a 66 km asteroid (1735) ITA. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid and UCAC star position.

Usage of recent UCAC star position didn't changed the path location, uncertainty has lowered by factor of 2. Only changed sections are given below. Other are available in the earlier update text.

Please check the path chart for details.

    Good luck !

    Jan Manek's update

                           IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
                   (1735) ITA / TAC -03 09790 on January 25/26, 2002
visible from middle East and Europe

    Summary

In the night of January 25/26, 2002 a faint 11.4 mag star TAC -03 09790 will be occulted by a 66 km asteroid (1735) ITA. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid and TAC star position.

The updated path shows ~0.4" south shift with time ~2.9 minutes later compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

Updated path runs over middle France around 0:01.3 UT, SW Switzerland ~0:01.5 UT, north Italy ~0:01.6 UT, Albania and Greece 0:01.7 UT, SW coast of Turkey ~0:03.6 UT and middle East around 0:05 UT. In fact uncertainty is rather large due to uncertain TAC star position, which inaccuracy may be even larger than stated below, so in fact large part of west, middle and SE Europe has some chance. Be careful, target star is south component of close pair. Please check the path chart for details.

    Good luck !
