                        IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
         (79) Eurynome / SAO 96055 = TYC 1334-00068-1 on March 14, 2002
             visible from S Spain, N Algeria, N Tunisia, S Sicily,
                   S Greece, N Cyprus, Syria, Iraq and Iran

    Summary

    In the evening of March 14, 2002 a 9.6 mag star SAO 96055 = TYC 1334-00068-1 will be occulted by a 69 km asteroid (79) Eurynome. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and Gnosca astrometry for the asteroid and combined Tycho-2/UCAC star position.

    The updated path shows ~1 path width south shift with time ~0.2 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

    Updated path runs over S Spain around 20:23 UT with Jerez, Malaga and Almeria in path, N Algeria with El-Djazair on south limit ~20:24 UT, N Tunisia with Tunis on south limit ~20:24.9 UT, S Sicily ~20:25.4 UT, S Greece ~20:26.3 UT, N Cyprus with Nicosia ~20:27.4 UT, Syria ~20:27.8 UT, Iraq ~20:28.3 UT and Iran ~20:29 UT. Larger area is covered taking uncertainty into consideration. Please check the path chart for details.

    Clear sky and good luck !!!

        position errors and expected asteroid positional accuracy.

    Data for the target star:

     * position source: Tycho-2 and UCAC combined with Tycho-2 proper motion
     * estimated accuracy ["]: 0.02" (0.010", 0.013")
     * V mag [mag]: 9.56
     * B-V [mag]: +1.21
     * remarks:
        Recent UCAC position was provided by Marion and Norbert Zacharias.
        Target star is in southwest Gemini, about 1.8 degrees NE of 2.0 mag gamma Geminorum = SAO 95912.
        Target star is the southern one in a pair, northern one is GSC 1334.896 about 80" north and
        about 0.5 mag fainter that target. It is on dense Milky Way field, so be sure to have enough
        time to locate the correct star. Purple stars in identification chart are so called
        'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close
        pairs. Be careful.

    Close finding chart (prepared in GUIDE7):

     * field is 2.0x2.0 degrees
     * limiting magnitude is 12.5
