                        IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
             (1165) Imprinetta / HIP 70302 = SAO 139906 on May 2/3, 2002
                           visible from India and Russia

    Summary

    In the night of May 2/3, 2002 a 9.8 mag star HIP 70302 = SAO 139906 will be occulted by a 55 km asteroid (1165) Imprinetta. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and combined Tycho-2/HIP star position.

    The updated path shows ~2 path width east shift with time ~0.1 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

    Updated path runs over India around 21:52 UT with Nagpur in path and Ahmadabad very close to path. Later after passing over Caspic sea path runs over Russia, south of Volgograd ~21:57.5 UT, just southwest of Moscow ~21:58.4 UT and just northeast of St.Petersburg ~21:59.0 UT. Please check the path chart for details.

    The brightness drop will be only ~2.5 magnitudes if the double star will not be resolved in the used telescope (instead of the stated 4.5 mags), but this is still enough for visual observation.

    Clear sky and good luck !!!

     * V mag [mag]: 9.76
     * B-V [mag]: +0.65
     * remarks:
        Target star is in northwest Libra, about 2.8 degrees NE of 4.2 mag star kappa Scorpii = SAO 158427.
        Target star is brighter component of double star, fainter one has 12.5 mag, at PA=279 and 8" distance.
        Star position quality is slightly degraded by this.
        Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
        the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful.
