                        IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
               (500) Selinur / TYC 6840-00799-1 on June 25/26 2002
visible from SE Asia, India, Arabia, middle East and Greece

    Summary

In night of June 25/26, 2002 a faint 11.7 mag star TYC 6840-00799-1 will be occulted by a 45 km asteroid (500) Selinur. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid and UCAC1 star position.

The updated path shows ~8 path width south shift with time ~0.4 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

Updated path runs over SE Asia around 20:05 UT, follows India around 20:08.2 UT about one path width north of Madras and Bangalore, Saudi Arabia around 20:15 UT, Sinai ~20:14.6 UT, Alexandria ~20:15.0 UT, Crete ~20:15.5 UT, SW Greece ~20:15.9 UT, and grazes very SE coast of Italy ~20:16.2 UT during its path over sea. Later in NE Italy, W Austria and E Switzerland the star is probably too low for reliable observation. Please check the path chart for details.

Clear sky and good luck !!!

Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.
