    Summary

In the night of July 12/13, 2002 a faint 11.1 mag star TYC 6298-02630-1 will be occulted by a 103 km asteroid (114) Kassandra. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and recent UCAC star position.

The updated path shows no shift with time ~0.2 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

Updated path runs over south Russia from northeast to southwest with Volgograd in path ~22:59.8 UT and Rostov on Don just north of path ~23:00.3 UT, NW Turkey ~23:01.4 UT, mid-north Greece around 23:02 UT, Sicily with very south tip of Italy ~23:02.7 UT with Palermo on north limit. Follows Tunisia ~23:03.4 UT, north Algeria around 23:04 UT and north Morocco around 23:05 UT. Please check the path chart for details.

Clear sky and good luck !!!

Recent UCAC position was provided by Marion and Norbert Zacharias.
Target star is in north Sagittarius, about 1.6 degrees east of 4.6 mag star upsilon Sagittarii = SAO 162518.
Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.
