                        IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
                (329) Svea / TYC 0496-02046-1 on August 1, 2002
               visible from Russia, Caucasus, Turkey and Cyprus

    Summary

    In the evening of August 1, 2002 a faint 11.9 mag star TYC 0496-02046-1 will be occulted by a 81 km asteroid (329) Svea. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and recent UCAC star position.

    The updated path shows ~3 path widths SE shift with time ~0.6 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

    Updated path runs over Russia from northeast to southwest with Sverdlovsk on south limit ~18:09.2 UT, while Kuybyshev and Volgograd are ~1 path north of limit. Follows east Caucasus ~18:12.2 UT, east Turkey ~18:13 UT, Cyprus ~18:13.7 UT and north African coast at Lybia/Egypt border ~18:15 UT. Please check the path chart for details.

    Clear sky and good luck !!!

     * remarks:
        Recent UCAC position was provided by Marion and Norbert Zacharias.
        Target star is in east Aquila, about 3.1 degrees northeast of 3.3 mag star theta Aquilae = SAO 144150.
        Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
        the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.

    Close finding chart (prepared in GUIDE7):
