IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
(487) Venetia / TYC 6237-00868-1 on August 2, 2002
visible from South Africa
Summary
In the night of August 2/3, 2002 a 11.0 mag star TYC 6237-00838-1 will be occulted by a 64 km asteroid (487) Venetia. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and UCAC1 star position.
The updated path shows ~1 path width north shift with time ~1.0 minutes later compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.
Updated path runs over south Saudi Arabia and Africa from NE to SW. Only very SE Namibia ~20:10.5 UT, and west South Africa ~20:11.5 UT is in path from usual sites, but still there are probably no observers there. Please check the path chart for details.
Clear sky and good luck !!!

Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful.
Close finding chart (prepared in GUIDE7):
* occulted star is in center - labeled with cross
* field is 3.0x3.0 degrees
* limiting magnitude is 13.0
* labeled stars have indicated SAO numbers
