                        IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
              (270) Anahita / TYC 0259-01420-1 on December 15/16, 2002
    visible from Greenland, Iceland, Netherlands, Germany, Austria and frm.Yugoslavia

    Summary

    In the morning of December 15/16, 2002 a faint 11.4 mag star TYC 0259-01420-1 will be occulted by a 52 km asteroid (270) Anahita. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and Tycho-2 star position.

    The updated path shows ~2 path width south shift with time 0.3 minutes later compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

    Updated path runs over Greenland, NE Iceland ~5:46 UT, Netherlands ~5:49.8 UT, Germany with Munich around 5:50.5 UT, Austria ~5:51.5 UT and frm.Yugoslavia ~5:52 UT with twilight. Uncertainties are rather large due to poor Tycho-2 star position and also as there is no recent opposition astrometry for asteroid. So observers also in U.K., Belgium, NE France, Switzerland, Czechia and Italy still have chance. Please check the path chart for details.

    Clear sky and good luck !!!

        !!! IMPORTANT !!!
        Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
        the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.

    Close finding chart (prepared in GUIDE7):
     * occulted star is in center - labeled with cross
     * field is 2.0x2.0 degrees
     * limiting magnitude is 13.0
     * labeled stars have indicated SAO numbers
