(441) Bathilde / TYC 0231-00635-1 = SAO 117679 on January 10/11, 2003
visible from S Russia, Crimean peninsula, Romania, fr,.Yugoslavia,
mid-north Italy, S France, N Spain, S USA and NW Mexico
Summary
In the night of January 10/11, 2002 a bright 7.7 mag star TYC 0231-00063-1 = SAO 117679 will be occulted by a 73 km asteroid (441) Bathilde. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and Tycho-2 star position.
The updated path shows ~6 path width south shift with time 1.9 minutes later compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.
Updated path runs over S Russia ~3:37.8 UT with Stavropol and Krasnodar in path, Crimean peninsula ~3:38.4 UT, Romania ~3:39 UT with Bucharest in path, frm.Yugoslavia ~3:40 UT with Belgrade in path, mid-north Italy ~3:40.8 UT, S France ~3:41.8 UT with Nice and Marseilles in path while Toulouse and Pic du Midi are on limits. Follows N Spain ~3:43 UT barely on limit is N Portugal. After crossing Atlantic ocean path runs over S USA 3:55-3:58 UT and NW Mexico ~3:58 UT. Please check the path chart for details.

Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.
