                        IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
                  (140) Siwa / TYC 0835-01394-1 on January 16/17, 2003
          visible from Arabian Peninsula, N Egypt, NE Libya, Malta, N Tunisia,
                            middle Spain and N Portugal

    Summary

    In the night of January 16/17, 2003 a faint 10.9 mag star TYC 0835-01394-1 will be occulted by a 114 km asteroid (140) Siwa. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid and recent UCAC star position.

    The updated path shows ~1 path width north shift with time 0.7 minutes later compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

    Updated path runs over Arabian Peninsula, N Egypt ~0:10.5 UT, NE Libya ~0:11.3 UT, Malta ~0:12.5 UT, N Tunisia ~0:13.0 UT, middle Spain around 0:14.5 UT with Valencia and Madrid in path and finally N Portugal with Porto in path ~0:15.0 UT. Please check the path chart for details.

    Clear sky and good luck !!!

        Should be easy to find.
        !!! IMPORTANT !!!
        Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
        the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.

    Close finding chart (prepared in GUIDE7):
     * occulted star is in center - labeled with cross
     * field is 3.0x3.0 degrees
     * limiting magnitude is 13.0
     * labeled stars have indicated SAO numbers
     * remarks:
