    Summary

    In the night of February 13/14, 2003 a bright 9.0 mag star TYC 4814-00668-1 = SAO 134182 will be occulted by a 104 km asteroid (663) Gerlinde. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and recent UCAC star position.

    The updated path shows large ~1" SW shift with time 2.4 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

    Updated path runs over India ~19:33.5 UT, middle East ~19:42.5 UT, Cyprus ~19:435 UT, SW Turkey ~19:44.5 UT, NE Greece ~19:45.6 UT, Macedonia ~19:46.0 UT, S Serbia ~19:46.4 UT, Bosnia ~19:46.7 UT, Croatia ~19:47.0 UT, Slovenia ~19:47.3 UT, very NE Italy ~19:47.6 UT, W Austria ~19:47.6 UT, SW Germany ~19:48.0 UT with Munich just north of path, very NE France ~19:48.4 UT with Strasbourg and Lille in path, Belgium ~19:48.7 UT with Brussels in path, England ~19:49.5 UT with London on south limit and Liverpool in path and finally north Ireland ~19:50.0 UT. Please check the path chart for details.

    Almost full Moon is exactly north of target star making target star location bit harder. However I count this as a favorable event due to bright star, low uncertainty, good path location, long event duration and large brightness drop.

    Clear sky and good luck !!!

        !!! IMPORTANT !!!
        Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
        the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.

    Close finding chart (prepared in GUIDE7):
     * occulted star is in center - labeled with cross
     * field is 3.0x3.0 degrees
     * limiting magnitude is 12.0
     * labeled stars have indicated SAO numbers
     * remarks: Second chart shows 30' blowup to show correctly the star in Milky Way field.
