                      IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
             (275) Sapientia / TYC 1396-00339-1 on February 26/27, 2003
    visible from Egypt, W Crete, Italy, W Switzerland, France, England and N Ireland

    Summary

    In the night of February 26/27, 2003 a faint 11.7 mag star TYC 1396-00339-1 will be occulted by a 121 km asteroid (275) Sapientia. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and recent UCAC star position.

    The updated path shows ~1 path width NE shift with time 0.3 minutes later compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

    Updated path runs over Egypt ~23:50 UT, W Crete ~23:52 UT, Italy from SE to NW 23:53.5 - 23:56.0 UT with Rome, Turin an Milan in path, W Switzerland ~23:56.3 UT, France ~23:56.5 - 23:57.8 UT, England ~23:58.5 UT and N Ireland ~23:59.5 UT. Please check the path chart for details.

    Other source gives diameter 103 km instead of 121 km. The actual path may be narrower than the one on chart.
    Clear sky and good luck !!!

     * constellation: Cancer
     * J2000 position [h,m,s; o,',"]: 08h 43m 24.4897s; +18o 58' 37.873"
     * position source: recent UCAC position combined with Tycho-2 proper motion
     * estimated accuracy ["]: 0.04" (0.03", 0.03")
     * V mag [mag]: 11.68
     * B-V [mag]: +0.31
     * remarks:
        Target star is in mid-south Cancer, about 0.9 degrees NNE of 3.9 mag star delta Cancri = SAO 98087
        or just SW of Beehive cluster M44.
        !!! IMPORTANT !!!
        Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
        the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.

    Close finding chart (prepared in GUIDE8):
     * occulted star is in center - labeled with cross
     * field is 2.0x2.0 degrees
     * limiting magnitude is 12.5
     * labeled stars have indicated SAO numbers
     * remarks: Second chart shows 30' blowup to show correctly the star in the field.
