                        IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
                (663) Gerlinde / TAC +03 03980 on April 23/24, 2003
            visible from Libya, N Egypt, middle East, S Iraq and Iran

    Summary

    In the night of April 23/24, 2003 a bright 9.0 mag star TAC +03 03980 will be occulted by a 104 km asteroid (663) Gerlinde. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and recent UCAC star position.

    The updated path shows ~8 path width south shift with no time correction compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

    Updated path runs over Libya ~18:20.3 UT, N Egypt ~18:21.0 UT, middle East around 18:21.3 UT, S Iraq ~18:21.7 UT and Iran ~18:22.0 UT. Please check the path chart for details.

    Clear sky and good luck !!!

     * remarks:
        Target star is in south Canis Minor, about 2.4 degrees SW of 0.5 mag star alpha Canis Minoris = SAO 115756 or
        11' NW of 5.6 mag star delta2 Canis Minoris = SAO 115610.
        !!! IMPORTANT !!!
        Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
        the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.

    Close finding chart (prepared in GUIDE8):
     * occulted star is in center - labeled with cross
     * field is 6.0x6.0 degrees
     * limiting magnitude is 11.2
     * labeled stars have indicated SAO numbers
     * remarks: Second chart shows 30' blowup to show correctly the star in Milky Way field.
