                        IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
                 (751) Faina / TYC 5619-01005-1 on May 14/15, 2003
                     visible from middle East and north Africa

    Summary

    In the night of May 14/15, 2003 a faint 12.4 mag star TYC 5619-01005-1 will be occulted by a 115 km asteroid (751) Faina. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and UCAC1 star position.

    The updated path shows ~10 path width south shift with time ~1.4 minute later compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

    Updated path runs over N Iran ~22:25 UT, N Iraq ~22:26.5 UT, middle East around 22:27 UT, grazes north Libya ~22:29.5 UT, S Tunisia ~22:30 UT, Algeria ~22:31 UT and north Morocco ~22:32 UT. Please check the path chart for details.

    Clear sky and good luck !!!

    The event at one glimpse:
     * date and approx. UT time of event: May 14, 2003 @ 22:29 UT (N Africa)
     * magnitude of target star: 12.4
     * magnitude drop [mag]: 0.9
     * estimated maximum duration [s]: 8.4
     * path description: given above
     * Goffin's original chart reference: A03_0541

    The occultation path:
     * approximate ground width [km]: 160
     * uncertainty [path widths]: 0.75
     * uncertainty in time [s]: 6
     * map: below
     * remarks: Path uncertainties are given according to nominal star
        position errors and expected asteroid positional accuracy.

    Data for the target star:
     * name: TYC 5619-01005-1
     * constellation: Libra
     * J2000 position [h,m,s; o,',"]: 15h 59m 24.6741s; -11o 28' 29.287"
     * position source: recent UCAC1 position combined with Tycho-2 proper motion
     * estimated accuracy ["]: 0.04" (0.03", 0.02")
     * V mag [mag]: 12.4
     * B-V [mag]: +?.??
     * remarks:
        Target star is in very east Libra, about 1.2 degrees west of 4.3 mag star xi Scorpii = SAO 159665.
        Magnitude was slightly adjusted as some indications showed Tycho-2 magnitude is too faint.
        !!! IMPORTANT !!!
        Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
        the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.

    Close finding chart (prepared in GUIDE8):
     * occulted star is in center - labeled with cross
     * field is 3.0x3.0 degrees
     * limiting magnitude is 13.5
     * labeled stars have indicated SAO numbers
     * remarks: Second chart shows 30' blowup to show correctly the star in field.
