       visible from N Russia, SE Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, NW Poland, NW Czechia,
                 Germany, NW Switzerland, France, NW Spain and N Portugal
    
    Summary 

    In the night of August 26/27, 2003 a bright 8.6 mag star TYC 5757-00353-1 = SAO 144929 will be occulted by a 146 km asteroid (420) Bertholda. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid and UCAC2-beta star position.

    The updated path shows ~3 path width north shift with time ~1.0 minutes later compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction or ~2.5 path width north and 0.4 minutes later compared to Eric Frappa's prediction.

    Updated path runs due to north shift over N Russia ~21:42 UT with St.Petersburg on north limit, SE Estonia ~21:42.5 UT, Latvia ~21:42.5 UT, Lithuania ~21:42.6, NW Poland around 21:43.1 UT with Poznan in path, NW Czechia ~21:43.7 UT, Germany from NE to SW around 21:43.9 UT with Berlin in path close to north limit, NW Switzerland ~21:44.4 UT, France from NE to SW around 21:44.8 with Strasbourg, Dijon and Bordeaux in path, NW Spain ~21:45.8 and N Portugal ~21:46.1 UT with Porto in path. Within uncertainty are many other places of this fine occultation. Refinement can be expected before the event, when new FASTT data will be available. Please check the path chart for details.

    Summary 

    In the night of August 26/27, 2003 a bright 8.6 mag star TYC 5757-00353-1 = SAO 144929 will be occulted by a 146 km asteroid (420) Bertholda. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid and UCAC2-beta star position.

    The updated path shows ~2.5 path width north shift with time ~0.9 minutes later compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction or ~2 path width north and 0.3 minutes later compared to Eric Frappa's prediction.

    Updated path runs due to north shift over N Russia ~21:42 UT with St.Petersburg just north of north limit, very SE Estonia ~21:42.4 UT, Latvia ~21:42.4 UT, Lithuania ~21:42.5, NW Poland around 21:43.0 UT with Poznan and Wroclaw in path, NW Czechia ~21:43.6 UT with Prague and Pilsen in path, Germany from NE to SW around 21:43.8 UT with Berlin just north of north limit, NW Switzerland ~21:44.3 UT with Bern and Zurich in path, France from NE to SW around 21:44.7 UT with Strasbourg, Dijon and Bordeaux in path, NW Spain ~21:45.7 UT and N Portugal ~21:46.0 UT with Porto in path. Within uncertainty are many other places of this fine occultation. Steve Preston's path from July 18th update is still about 0.3 path widths more to SE. Please check the path chart for details.
