                       IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
               (346) Hermentaria / GSC 6865-01922 on October 20/21, 2003
                 visible from S Portugal, Spain, SE France and N Italy

    Summary

    In the night of October 20/21, 2003 a faint 11.7 mag star GSC 6865-01922 will be occulted by a 110 km asteroid (346) Hermentaria. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and UCAC2 star position.

    The updated path shows only very small shifts compared to Eric Frappa's nominal prediction.

    Path runs over S Portugal ~18:58.1 UT, Spain ~18:58.3 UT, SE France ~18:58.5 and N Italy ~18:58.7 UT. Please check the path chart for details.

    Short event at low and very altitudes at the end of path. Video highly recommended for sure event observation. Clear sky and good luck !!!

     * uncertainty in time [s]: 5
     * map: below
     * remarks: Path uncertainties are given according to nominal star
        position errors and expected asteroid positional accuracy.

    Data for the target star:
     * name: GSC 6865-01922
     * constellation: Sagittarius
     * J2000 position [h,m,s; o,',"]: 18h 33m 10.1774s; -26o 46' 49.193"
     * position source: UCAC2
     * estimated accuracy ["]: 0.03" (0.02", 0.02")
     * V mag [mag]: 11.7
     * B-V [mag]: +0.00 ?
     * remarks:
        Target star is in middle Sagittarius, about 1.8 degrees southwest of 2.8 mag star lambda Sagittarius = SAO 186841.
        !!! IMPORTANT !!!
        Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
        the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.

    Close finding chart (prepared in GUIDE8):
     * occulted star is in center - labeled with cross
     * field is 3.0x3.0 degrees
     * limiting magnitude is 12.0
     * labeled stars have indicated SAO numbers
     * remarks: Second chart shows 30' blowup to show correctly the star in field.
