               (152) Atala / TYC 1223-00074-1 on November 4/5, 2003
    visible from Middle East, Tunisia, N Algeria, N Morocco, Bahamas and Mexico

    Summary

    In the night of November 4/5, 2003 a faint 10.2 mag star TYC 1223-00074-1 will be occulted by a 71 km asteroid (152) Atala. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid and UCAC2 star position.

    The updated path shows ~2 path width north shift with time ~1.5 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

    Updated path runs due to north shift over Middle East ~0:28 UT, Tunisia ~0:31.4 UT, N Algeria ~0:32.0 UT, N Morocco ~0:33.0 UT and later Bahamas 0:40.2 UT and Mexico 0:41.1 UT. Please check the path chart for details.

    Target star is the southern star in a wide pair, other component about the same brightness and ~47" north.
    Clear sky and good luck !!!

        !!! IMPORTANT !!!
        Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
        the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.

    Close finding chart (prepared in GUIDE8):
     * occulted star is in center - labeled with cross
     * field is 3.0x3.0 degrees
     * limiting magnitude is 12.5
     * labeled stars have indicated SAO numbers
     * remarks: Second chart shows 30' blowup to show correctly the star in field.
