IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (674) Rachele / TAC +03 00515 on December 10/11, 2003 visible from South Africa, Algeria, NE Spain, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Norway Summary
In the night of December 10/11, 2003 a faint 11.0 mag star TAC +03 00515 will be occulted by a 95 km asteroid (674) Rachele. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid and UCAC2 star position.
The updated path shows ~6 path width westh shift with time 0.7 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.
Updated path runs due to west shift over South Africa around 21:40 UT, Algeria ~21:58 UT, NE Spain with Barcelona in path ~21:59.5 UT, France from south to north around 22:00.6 UT, Belgium ~22:01.5 UT with Brussels in path, W Netherlands ~22:02.0 UT and Norway ~22:03.0 UT and later. Please check the path chart for details.
Magnitude and color of target star is given according to TAC catalogue. However there is suspicion that it may be fainter and therefore magnitude drop may be smaller going possibly even beyond possibilities if visual observers. GSC gives approximately V magnitude as 12.71 mag. Star is not known as variable star. Visual inspection is desired.
Here is current station list for observers and European cities.
Clear sky and good luck !!!

IMPORTANT !!! Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.
