                   (558) Carmen / TAC +16 02858 on February 7/8, 2004
               visible from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, N Iran, S Russia,
           NE Ukraine, SW Belarus, NE Poland, S Sweden, S Norway and S Iceland
    
    Summary 

    In the night of February 7/8, 2004 a faint 13.1 mag star TAC +16 02858 = GSC 1378-00669 will be occulted by a 62 km asteroid (558) Carmen. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and UCAC2 star position.

    The updated path shows ~3 path widths south shift with time 1.1 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

    Updated path runs over India around 21:36.6 UT, Pakistan ~21:32.9 UT, Afghanistan ~21:33.7 UT, N Iran ~21:34.5 UT, S Russia ~21:36.7 UT, NE Ukraine ~21:37.9 UT, SW Belarus ~21:38.8 UT, NE Poland ~21:39.2 UT, S Sweden ~21:40.0 UT, S Norway ~21:40.5 UT and S Iceland ~21:42.3 UT. Please check the path chart for details.

    Compared to Goffin's prediction I have accepted much fainter magnitude for the target star because GSC V magnitudes (12.9 and 13.3mag), UCAC2 red 13.0 mag and 2MASS JHK data aren't consistent with the visual magnitude given in TAC catalogue used by Goffin. Therefore the drop will be only 0.8 magnitudes. Hard event.
