                         IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
               (349) Dembowska / HIP 53965 = SAO 99415 on February 20/21, 2004
                  visible from India, middle East, Cyprus, very SW Turkey,
                         S Greece, Sicilia, S Spain and S Portugal

    Summary

    In the night of February 20/21, 2004 a bright 8.2 mag star HIP 53965 = SAO 99415 will be occulted by a 143 km asteroid (349) Dembowska. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff, TMO and OAC astrometry for the asteroid and Hipparcos star position.

    The updated path shows ~1 path width south shift with time 0.1 minutes earlier compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.

    Updated path runs over India around 21:21 UT, middle East ~21:26.0 UT, Cyprus ~21:26.6 UT, very SW Turkey ~21:27.0 UT, S Greece ~21:27.7 UT, Sicilia ~21:28.4 UT, S Spain ~21:29.7 UT and S Portugal ~21:30.0 UT. Please check the path chart for details.

    Finding charts (prepared in GUIDE8):
     * occulted star is in center - labeled with cross
     * labeled stars have indicated SAO numbers
     * (smaller) square box shows 30' field in all wider field charts
     * (larger) square box shows 3° field in wide field charts
     * remarks:
       Target star is in middle Leo, about 3.2 degrees NW of 3.3 mag star theta Leonis = SAO 99512.
       !!! IMPORTANT !!!
       Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
       the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.
