IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for
(275) Sapientia / TYC 6269-00350-1 on May 31/June 1, 2004
visible from Middle East, N Egypt, N Lybia, Tunisia, N Algeria,
S Spain and S Portugal
Summary
In the night of May 31/June 1, 2004 a faint 12.0 mag star TYC 6269-00350-1 will be occulted by a 103 km asteroid (275) Sapientia. This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff and TMO astrometry for the asteroid and UCAC2 star position.
The updated path shows ~3 path width south shift with time ~2.0 minutes later compared to Edwin Goffin's nominal prediction.
Updated path runs over Middle East ~22:21 UT, N Egypt ~22:22.5 UT, N Lybia ~22:23.7 UT, Tunisia ~22:25.2 UT, N Algeria ~22:25.8 UT, S Spain ~22:26.4 UT and S Portugal ~22:26.6 UT. Please check the path chart for details.

Finding charts (prepared in GUIDE8):
* occulted star is in center - labeled with cross
* labeled stars have indicated SAO numbers
* (smaller) square box shows 30' field in all wider field charts
* (larger) square box shows 3° field in wide field charts
* remarks:
Target star is in north Sagittarius, about 4.2 degrees southwest of 4.7 mag star gamma Scuti = SAO 161520
or about 1 degree southwest of open cluster M18.
!!! IMPORTANT !!!
Purple stars in identification chart are so called 'non-star' objects in GSC; in dense fields
the 'non-stars' are often real stars or blends of close pairs. Be careful about this.
